Geraint Thomas has moved to second overall position after completion of stage four.
Being part of Team Sky’s Geraint Thomas has made this accomplishment by finishing third in the Giro d’Italia. The Welshman was behind Bob Jungels by about six seconds and was the fourth man to be leading the race. He was ahead of Adam Yates of Britain. As per Geraint’s quotes that he provided to BBC Sport, the three week race that is currently underway takes the riders on a route from Pedara to Messina and it will conclude on the 28th of May in Milan. He states that there was headwind in the last two kilometers, which made everyone apprehensive. Geraint feels that it gave him a sprint to the third overall place and a chance to up his position in the last few crucial seconds.
The climb was a portion of the race that he was confident about, but the headwind being present, he was not eager to go into the race too early. Even though he has made a good performance in the sprint part of the race there is a long way to go and that is what will be revealed as the race continues.
Known as the Tour of Italy, the Giro d’Italia is an annual bicycle race that takes place in multiple stages every year. The first race was organized way back in 1909. This race gained prominence over the years and the route expanded. Initially a race meant for participation by the Italians, the race now has international participation from the world over. In March he led the Sky team in Tirreno-Adriatico. Due to an accident that happened to one of the members of the team, they finished behind the BMC Racing team. It now remains to be seen how the team finally fares in the final race.
