Geraint Thomas had revealed that he probably had worked himself too hard in preparation of the Tour de France.
“I pushed my weight loss too far ahead of the Tour de France,” he said.
According to the Team Sky rider, he had engaged a exhaustive training routine in the build up to this year’s Tour de France, which saw him losing too much weight, too quickly.
Team Sky had defending champion, Chris Froome, as lead rider in the build up to the Tour de France, with Thomas as reserve. Thomas however put on a remarkable performance at the spring winning the Paris-Nice title. Unfortunately, he was not able to reproduce the same result at the Tour of Romandie or the Tour de Suisse, where he eventually finished 17th overall. In an interview with Cycling News he said:
“Suisse wasn’t great and it certainly knocked my confidence but looking back I could see the mistakes that I made with losing too much weight, too quickly, while doing a load of training.”
He lamented that it took him time to recover from the excess weight loss, and that he went to the tour with little confidence in his ability to perform well. READ MORE
