Sky has unveiled their secret weapon that would assist them in the cobbled routes. It’s a special suspension cobble bike from Pinarello Dogma range, co-engineered by Jaguar.
The cobble-smoothing suspension bike would be used by Sky stalwarts like Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas & other riders from the team in the coming Flanders Tour & Paris-Roubaix.
The carbon-fibre bike features shock placed on top of wishbone seat. Equipped with Dogma Suspension technology, the Pinarello bike affords 10mm movement. It’s engineered to soften riding blow over the cobblestones & keep rear wheel well tracked over the rough surfaces.
Christian Knees and Bradley Wiggins tested the special bike last month on cobbled route of last 130 kms of Paris-Roubaix track. The suspension bike has been released post extensive testing & performance analysis & was only launched after being assured of guaranteed compatibility with the Classics.
As per Sky, the cycle frame weighs around 900g. Pinarello & Jaguar have come up with flat carbon, flexible fibre chain stays to accommodate rear movement.
Figures produced from Jaguar showed that the all-new K8-S bike frame aided to create overall performance increment of 4.6 percent & 50 percent enhanced comfort for cyclists over the tough terrains from earlier Dogma K version.
The 2012 Tour de France champ is hugely impressed with the new bike frame.
“I have never ridden on anything like this on the cobbles earlier – that is the extreme-most terrain for the bikes”, stated Wiggo.
“The very way you feel while you are on it, the improved rear flex, stiffness, aerodynamics, is just game-changing for riding.”
Sky’s manager Sir Brailsford remarked-“We have knitted Pinarello’s world-class bike-design knowledge & Jaguar’s industry-leading engineering and technological expertise, with proven winning squad of riders & experts to ensure something really ground-breaking.”
